Starting the Flash

We picked up a pretty sorry looking Flash (Williams, 1979) recently in a suburb of Chicago. It had no displays, the backglass was flaking badly, and it looked like it still had the full 30 years' worth of dirt and grime drilled into the playfield. Still, most of the playfield art was still there, and there was no apparent planking or cracking of the wood surface or the paint. So I made the trip, and loaded up the Explorer with our newest acquisition.

On the way home, I had an opportunity to stop and visit Pinball Life's new warehouse & office in Huntley, Illinois. It had only been open for a couple of days, but Terry & Co. were very gracious, and the facility looks terrific. I assume I'll be making the trip out that way pretty frequently.

I am finding that I like these early Solid State machines more than I would have expected. The artwork is more interesting, and they seem to play really well. The Flash is a popular model, and the pinball community always seems to have something nice to say about it. Unlike the Popeye which is also sitting in our garage at the moment.
