COMPLETE RESTORATION OF 1978 VINTAGE MACHINE


This is Family Arcade's first resotration of a solid-state machine, an original Bally Playboy Pinball Machine, manufactured in 1978, one of the most popular pinball machines every made. This machine was completely repaired and restored. Every single component was checked, adjusted, replaced, or restored, and it ended up loooking terrific, both mechanically and aesthetically.  A partial list of the many reconditioning steps that were performed on this machine:
  • Complete removal of all playfield parts, which were meticulously cleaned or replaced
  • Careful cleaning and restoration of the original playfield art (examples shown below)
  • Complete clear-coating of the playfield surface to enhance the sheen of the playfield art, and prolong the longevity of the playfield surface
  • Sanding, repair, and complete repainting of the cabinet and backbox to restore the color and vibrancy of the original cabinet artwork
  • Restoration of the original apron artwork with new apron decals
  • Replacement of the original Playboy bumper caps, which were prone to scorching and melting
  • Replacement of the original Bally power rectifier board (notoriously unstable) with a brand new and robust Rottendog Rectifier Board
  • Replacement of the original Bally MPU board with a brand new Alltek Ultimate MPU Board, which comes with a transferable, lifetime guarantee
  • Replacement of all electrolytic capacitors on any board, regardless of condition (sound board, solenoid driver board)
  • Complete rebuilding of the flippers, replacement of both flipper switches
  • Replacement of the complete ball shooter assembly, springs, and rubber tip
  • Replacement of all playfield and backbox lamps with #47 bulbs, replacement of lamp sockets where necessary
  • Checking and replacement, where necessary, of all transistors on the light driver board to ensure that all lamps work and function properly
  • Replacement of all solenoid coil sleeves
  • Complete checking of all connector pins, replacement where necessary
  • Contact cleaning and testing of every switch
  • Replacement of all fuses
  • Configuration of the game as FREE PLAY (as configured on the MPU board)
